Custom stand-up pouches for upright display

A bottom gusset gives a stand-up pouch room to open into a base. Choose this format when the filled package needs to stand on a shelf or counter, then check its stability with your actual product.

Stand-up or flat: choose the way the pack will be used

  • Retail and multi-serving packs: compare stand-up pouches when shelf presentation and repeated access matter.
  • Light or bulky fills: test whether the contents open the gusset and keep the pack balanced. An empty pouch does not tell you how it will stand.
  • Samples and compact portions: compare flat pouches when upright display adds little value.

Make sure the filled pouch truly stands

Fill and gusset

Trial-fill the product and check how weight and settling open the bottom gusset.

Shelf stability

Evaluate base shape, center of gravity and the finished display footprint.

Opening and sealing

Preserve enough top area for filling, closure placement and a reliable seal.

Real-world handling

Test the filled pack in cartons, on shelves and through expected shipping conditions.

Choose materials and finishes after the filled-pouch test

Compare films for product contact, printing, sealing and exposure; the bottom gusset determines the format.

Compare white for many dry stand-up pouch uses

Compare this for compatible dry foods, powders and solids when moisture management and a neutral print base are useful starting needs.

Why compare it
White has the lower typical water-vapor transmission value in our material lineup.
Tradeoff
The bottom gusset does not establish product compatibility, barrier needs or shelf life.
Test before production
Product contact, gusset opening, stability, seals, repeated use, distribution and target shelf life.

Compare metallic when oxygen and opacity lead

Use this opaque option as primary or secondary packaging when lower oxygen transmission deserves more weight.

Why compare it
Metallic has the lower typical oxygen-transmission value in our material lineup.
Tradeoff
Its typical water-vapor transmission value is higher than white and clear, and filled-pouch stability still depends on size and weight.
Test before production
Actual product contact, light, gusset behavior, seals, compression, storage and distribution.

Consider clear when the product belongs in the display

Use this as primary or secondary packaging when visibility supports the sale and the contents can tolerate the planned exposure.

Why compare it
Clear reveals the product while sharing the same typical transmission values as our white materials.
Tradeoff
Light, settling, scratches, crumbs and residue remain visible.
Test before production
Shelf appearance, stability, light, product contact, seals, repeated handling and distribution.

Choose matte or gloss for the look and feel

Matte: a lower-shine 1.3 mil BOPP exterior; the complete film averages 4.9 mil.

Gloss: a more reflective 1.2 mil PET exterior; the complete film averages 4.8 mil.

Compare the complete films. Our specifications list lower oxygen-transmission limits for metallic and lower water-vapor transmission limits for white and clear. Confirm temperature, humidity and other test conditions before comparing barrier data. These film values do not establish product compatibility, measured light protection, odor containment or finished-package shelf life.

Compare all six materials and finishes, including the full film details and downloadable specifications.

Size the pouch from a trial fill

  • Measure the volume occupied by the planned net contents after settling.
  • Leave room for loading, any zipper and the final top heat seal.
  • Check gusset opening, front-panel shape and balance on the intended shelf.
  • Check the filled pouch in its shipping carton; the display footprint and packed footprint may differ.

Use the pouch sizing guide to narrow the dimensions, then confirm the fit with physical samples.

Before production: prove the complete package

Before production, confirm the filled shape, stable base and repeatable seal using the actual product and filling equipment. For food contact, also match the component documentation to the food and its filling and storage conditions.

Official reference points: FDA food-contact conditions of use ยท FDA food-contact component status. Check the requirements for the actual product and selling market before production.

Stand-up pouch FAQs

Can a stand-up pouch hold liquids?

Start with the pouch as secondary packaging around a sealed primary container. Direct filling needs evidence for liquid compatibility, leakage, seal contamination and distribution performance with the exact product and process.

Does a zipper replace the top heat seal?

No. The zipper provides convenient reclosure after opening. Plan the initial heat seal above it and test both with the filled pouch.

Can I add a zipper or hang hole?

The configurator shows the compatible features for the selected size. Check the usable opening, seal clearance and filled weight before choosing a display feature.
